Health and Dental Opt-Out Reimbursement
The Health and Dental Insurance opt out reimbursements by Direct Deposit were sent out. The cheques are were mailed out by November 16, 2018. Please note: Due to the Canada Post Labour Disruption, there may be delays in receiving your mail. If you do not receive your cheque by November 30, 2018, please send an email to: email@example.com. You should have received an application number after you opted-out. That is your confirmation that your opt-out was successful. Please forward the email with the confirmation number, including your student number, to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will investigate your reimbursement status.
How to Opt-Out
To opt-out, you must show proof of equivalent insurance (not OHIP/UHIP). You must opt-out annually, at the beginning of the term you are first registered in. You cannot rejoin the plan after you have opted-out, so check the expiry date on your insurance. Visit www.studentcare.ca to opt-out online.
How to Opt-In
To opt-in your dependents, you must opt them in annually, at the beginning of the term you are first registered in. This is an annual plan. You cannot opt in your dependents for one semester only. Visit www.studentcare.ca to opt-in online.

Health and Dental Insurance Information for New Students starting in September 2019
IMPORTANT: The September 1 – October 1 , 2019 Change of Coverage period is for NEW students starting their program in September 2019.

IMPORTANT: The Health & Dental Insurance Change-of-Coverage Period for students only starting in September 1 – October 1, 2019. Full-time and part-time graduate students are automatically covered by the UTGSU Health & Dental Plan. There is no waiting period to be enrolled on the plan, however, there is a blackout period for students starting in September (until November 1st) for submitting the claims. The University sends the list of all active students directly to the broker to be uploaded on the Green Shield System after the enrolment period is completed.
Fall Semester Opt-Out Reimbursements:
The Fall Semester opt-out refunds will be issued during the third week of November after the add/drop period is over. Cheques will also be mailed out during the third week of November. If you do not receive your cheques by the end of December, please forward the confirmation email you received when you opted out and we will forward it to the broker for investigation.
Remember, you have an option for “direct deposit”. If you wish to use this option, please indicate this on the opt-out form and provide your banking information.
Health and Dental Insurance Plan Coverage After Convocation
If you are currently covered by the UTGSU Health and Dental Insurance Plan, and you graduated in June, your coverage ends on August 31st, 2019 provided you paid the Winter fees. You are eligible to purchase the 12 Month Extended Coverage. The Opt in dates are September 1 – October 1, 2019.
