Leave of Absence Coverage

What is a Leave of Absence Coverage?

Students on a Leave of Absence (LOA) will automatically lose their UTGSU Supplementary Health and Dental coverage since they will not be registered and pay tuition and incidental fees, which includes the health and dental premiums. The health and dental plan is part of the services the University extends to registered fee-paying students and is not a stand-alone service. The UTGSU can advocate for our members to receive health and dental benefits when taking a Leave of Absence – this is known as an ‘exception.’ Advocating for an approved Leave of Absence exception is generally done during the Change of Coverage period. Students wishing to continue their UTGSU health and dental plan coverage should contact health@utgsu.ca as soon as possible.
