Benefit Coverage Period

For students who start their program in September, their coverage begins September 1 and ends on August 31. If you graduate or leave your program at the end of the fall semester, your coverage is terminated on December 31 because you will not be assessed the winter fees. For students who are finishing their program in April, you have paid winter fees, therefore your coverage ends August 31.

Students who start their program in the Summer are charged tuition and incidental fees in the Summer which is applied to the upcoming academic year. Their insurance would be effective September 1 and ends on August 31.

Note for first year students: There is a blackout period for newly insured students until October 31 while the university and insurance provider confirm your enrollment and onboard you to the policy. During this time, you will not be able to register your GreenShield account. However, after the blackout period expires, you will be able to register and make claims for September and October.

Family Coverage

You may enroll your spouse and/or dependent children in the Plan at the beginning of your first eligible term. See StudentCare for instructions.

Please note: Your dependents’ coverage is only valid if you are covered under the Plan. If you are graduating in December and wish to enroll your spouse and/or dependent children in the Plan this fall, you must commit to enrolling in the 12-Month Extended Insurance Plan for graduating students in writing by September 30. The 12-Month Extended Insurance Plan covers you from January 1 – December 31. A total of 50% of the family enrolment fee you paid in September will be deducted from the cost of the 12-Month Extended Insurance Plan fee that you will pay in January.

GreenShield+

Members are able to access the GreenShield+ mobile app to file claims, check their claim status, get a virtual copy of their Pay Direct Card (PDC) and much more. Students can log into the app using their regular GreenShield online login.

GreenShield+ mobile app will replace the former platform of GSC Everywhere.
